Alexandra Bettermann

Dr. rer. nat., M.Sc. Chemistry

As a patent attorney and European trademark and design attorney, Alexandra Bettermann advises national and international clients in all fields of intellectual property, with a particular focus on technical property rights. She has been involved in numerous patent grant proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO) and the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), from the conception of IP applications to their examination and grant. She has also taken the lead in numerous opposition proceedings, both on the patent owner’s side and on the opponent’s side. Her main areas of expertise are inorganic and organic chemistry, analytics, biochemistry and medicinal chemistry.

Alexandra Bettermann was admitted to the German Patent Bar in September 2022. She joined VON ROHR in November 2018.

In the course of her previous doctoral studies and her chemistry studies at the University of Hamburg, which she completed in 2014, Alexandra Bettermann conducted extensive research on medicinal chemistry issues, such as the optimization of the availability of antibacterial agents at their site of action or the targeted release of nucleotide secondary messengers. The results of these studies have been published in a number of journals and presented at international conferences.

In addition, Alexandra Bettermann has worked in depth on bioanalytical topics, such as the structural elucidation of glycoproteins, which are relevant as tumor markers, for example. During a research stay at the Universidad de Sevilla, Spain, the focus of her work was on the chemical modification of naturally occurring sugar derivatives with antioxidants.
